Michael Beasley reportedly getting 7-figure deal to play in China:
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Beasley has agreed to a seven-figure agreement with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Beasley, 33, hasn’t appeared in an NBA game since the 2018-19 season, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and appeared in 26 games. He has recently played in the CBA, but not for the Sharks.
Michael Beasley reportedly getting 7-figure deal to play in China:
Beasley attended Kansas State for one year before declaring for the NBA draught in 2008. The Miami Heat selected him second overall, but he never lived up to his full potential. On the court, he had some good moments, but he was beset by difficulties, which he just discussed on “The Pivot” podcast.
Throughout his career, Beasley suffered with drug addiction as well as mental health issues. Some of them stem from Beasley’s shady relationships with his family, who he claims stole from him during his career. He’s battled to surround himself with the appropriate people since then, calling it “tiresome” to keep looking for decent individuals.
He claims that he doesn’t trust people readily as a result of his broken family ties, and that he is quite insular, spending much of his time at home alone, talking solely to his children on the phone, and only leaving the house to play basketball. He admitted that he has tried to enlist the help of friends, but that he does not want to burden them with his troubles at this time.
Beasley also pondered how low an athlete had to fall in order to receive assistance from the community.
“Do I have to put myself in Delonte West’s shoes to seek assistance?” Beasley wondered. “I don’t mean any disrespect to Delonte West or anyone else in his position. What, on the other hand, does it take to do the right thing? I’ve always begged for aid. People referred to me as insane. […] I’ve tried so hard, so many times to reach out to different individuals, and it’s just that I have to die with some dignity.”
During the conversation, Beasley was visibly upset, breaking down in tears numerous times as he talked about his background. The hosts tried to cheer him up by reminding him that his fans still care about him and want to see him succeed.
