Mesut Ozil Finally Opens:
The former player for Real Madrid and Arsenal has selected his all-time favourite.
After announcing his retirement from sports, Mesut Ozil chose his former Real Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time.
Ozil, who retired at the age of 34, played for Fenerbahce and Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish top division for the previous two seasons. His parents are Turkish. Just over two years after Arsenal preemptively terminated his contract after seven and a half years at the club, the 92-cap Germany international cited injury concerns as the reason for putting up the boots.
The playmaker spent three seasons in Madrid alongside Ronaldo before moving to north London. Over the course of 149 matches in which they both played together, Ozil assisted 32 goals for the Portugal international during that time, and the midfielder remembers the experience warmly.
Mesut Ozil Finally Opens:
The best player of all time in my opinion, Cristiano Ronaldo, was a lot of pleasure to play with, Ozil told the sports publication Marca in Madrid. “On the pitch, we had amazing communication with one another. He scored thanks to my help. Providing a player who hardly ever missed passes was a gift.”
During their playing careers, Ozil has been a steadfast supporter of Ronaldo, and in January 2021, he reiterated this stance in response to a Twitter question and answer session. When asked to pick between the two months before Messi left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, he responded, “Ronaldo was always the best in every place he’s played in, but Messi has proven himself to be one of the best ever in Spain.
