Luke Shaw Breaks Silence: Very unacceptable and embarrassing,” Following Liverpool’s 7-0 victory over Manchester United, Luke Shaw
LIVERPOOL: According to Luke Shaw, Manchester United’s season cannot be derailed by a “completely unacceptable” and “disgraceful” 7-0 loss at Liverpool. Shaw has apologised for the defeat.
The Old Trafford giants, who ended a six-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup last week, travelled to Merseyside on Sunday full of optimism and talk of a possible quadruple.
Nevertheless, in the thrashing at Anfield, United’s tenuous chances of winning the Premier League were dashed as they lost badly, matching their worst defeat ever by giving up six goals in a dismal second half.
“Unacceptable, embarrassing, to be honest,” England defender Shaw told MUTV.
“I believe that while I was on the field, I felt embarrassed for the supporters who were there to support us and those who were watching at home to see that second half.
“I can only apologise for it, and we as players must own it; we must stand up and acknowledge that it was far from enough.”
Since United won the League Cup at Wembley by defeating Newcastle in the final, Shaw claimed that standards had fallen.
Because this hurts so much, “we need to rediscover the positive things we were doing before and bring them back,” he remarked.
“The mistakes we made in the second half are very unacceptable.
Luke Shaw Breaks Silence:
“For a big team to come here, we need to be better,” said the team. “We showed no personality, no mentality.”
With a Europa League encounter against Real Betis scheduled for Thursday, the 27-year-old claimed the team required a thorough debriefing on Monday.
The belief and character that we know we possess but that we lost today must be maintained, together with the attitude and mindset that we know we possess, he stated.
We are in a really fantastic spot right now, so I don’t think we can let this one result ruin the rest of the season.
